Clocking a Massive Moment in the Pursuit of Connecting Florida at Scale

Comcast has officially confirmed a major milestone in the company’s effort to expand internet access across rural parts of Florida.

According to certain reports, the company has now expanded its next-generation network to more than 32,000 homes and businesses in 16 counties, enhancing digital infrastructure and promoting economic growth, while simultaneously positioning residents and local businesses for success in an increasingly digital world.

“Expanding access to high-speed Internet in rural Florida isn’t just about technology, it’s about creating opportunity,” said Jeff Buzzelli, Senior Vice President for Comcast’s Florida Region. “From students to small businesses to entire communities, this investment helps shrink the digital divide and unlocks the tools people need to thrive. We’re proud to partner with the state of Florida to make this a reality.”

Markedly enough, Comcast would achieve this through a partnership with the State of Florida’s Broadband Opportunity Program and Capital Projects Fund. Lehigh Acres would become, on its part, one of the biggest beneficiaries. We get to say so because the area’s eastern Lee County had more than 11,000 homes enjoying access to high-speed connectivity.

Beyond that, the expansion in question would benefit Bradford, Charlotte, Clay, Collier, Columbia, DeSoto, Highlands, Jackson, Lee, Leon, Marion, Martin, Miami-Dade, Okeechobee, St. Johns and St. Lucie.

Moving forward, Comcast will leverage Broadband Opportunity Program and Capital Projects Fund to complete the company’s commitment towards expanding internet access to a total of 64,000 homes and businesses in rural Florida by the end of 2026. The company will, in fact, continue its work across 32,000 new locations in 13 more counties. These counties include: Bay, Glades, Hamilton, Hardee, Hendry, Indian River, Lake, Nassau, Polk, Putnam, Sarasota, Union and Wakulla.

The stated projects will settle, in totality, to a $322 million worth of investment between Comcast and the state of Florida.

“High-speed internet is essential not just for a better quality of life, but to strengthening American competitiveness,” said Kathleen Passidomo, District 28 State Senator. “By bringing broadband to more communities across Florida, Comcast is opening doors and paving the way for education, economic growth and prosperity.”

Talk about Comcast’s Xfinity and Comcast Business plans on a slightly deeper level, we begin from the former, which delivers a full suite of products, including Internet, video, mobile, voice, and home security.

Across these channels, the company will offer powerful WiFi that reaches every corner of the home, and super-responsive connections with low lag available. As a result, users can seamlessly leverage their connected devices to stream sports and entertainment content, video chat with coworkers and friends, as well as learn from home or simply surf the web.

Turning our attention towards Comcast Business, it essentially offers a suite of connectivity, communications, networking, cybersecurity, wireless, and managed solutions to help organizations of all sizes achieve their business goals. The plan’s excellence in what it does can also be understood once you consider industry analysts and associations have consistently recognized Comcast Business as a leader in flexible, scalable options, and one of the fastest-growing providers when it comes to Ethernet services.

The development in question also delivers a rather interesting follow-up to Comcast’s efforts to bolster connectivity across Florida. You see, since 2011, the company has provided low-cost internet service, digital skills training and subsidized computers to spades of income-constrained households.

“Expanding broadband access is critical to the long-term success of our region’s economy and workforce,” said Tiffany Esposito. State Representative and President of SWFL, Inc,. “Reliable, high-speed Internet empowers families, supports students, and fuels innovation for local businesses. I’m proud to support efforts that bring this essential infrastructure to communities like Lehigh Acres.”
