An Agile Answer to the Ever-Evolving Needs of Modern Broadband Networks

Sercomm Corporation, a leading provider of telecom and broadband equipment, has officially received certification in regards to its I-TEMP 10G SFP+ ONU for XGS-PON and 10G EPON with Harmonic’s cOS PON OLT portfolio. According to certain reports, the stated certification makes it possible for network operators to access a powerful and flexible solution for meeting diverse deployment needs, as the 10G pluggable ONU joins the list of previously certified stand-alone models. More on the same would reveal how I-TEMP 10G PON SFP+ ONU form factor is designed to address a variety of unique deployment scenarios. Furthermore, it is well-equipped to offer seamless integration and cost-effective solutions across multiple environments.

Talk about these compatible environments on a slightly deeper level, we begin from MDU with Coax, where SFP+ ONU serves as an uplink to Harmonic’s Wave or Pebble remote PHY device (RPD). By doing so, it allows for operators to deploy fiber to the premises. Furthermore, ONU in question can be terminated inside a Harmonic device, providing multi-gig DOCSIS broadband service for local distribution over existing coaxial infrastructure. Such a setup is especially ideal for those operators who aim to enhance broadband speeds in multi-dwelling units (MDUs) without the need for extensive rewiring.

Next up, there would be MDU with Ethernet. You see, once you pair Harmonic’s portfolio of switches like the Wharf with SFP+ ONU, the latter is able to offer Ethernet connectivity for small businesses and multi-unit dwellings, delivering what would be a robust and scalable solution for high-speed internet services in densely populated areas. Then, we have Community Wi-Fi and Security Cameras. Here, SFP+ ONU can be used as an uplink in enterprise Wi-Fi gateways or security cameras. This it does to isolate traffic from residential services. Such an application becomes especially important when the agenda is to maintain secure and dedicated connections across public and shared spaces.

“The certification of Sercomm’s I-TEMP 10G SFP+ ONU with Harmonic’s cOS PON OLT portfolio further underscores our joint commitment to providing operators with flexible, scalable, and cost-effective solutions that meet the evolving demands of modern broadband networks,” said Dan Gledhill, Senior Vice President of Fiber Broadband at Harmonic. “Our continued collaboration with Sercomm enables our customers to expand their networks and deliver high-speed services to more subscribers, ultimately driving greater value and growth.”

We referred to the prospect of using the solution alongside security cameras, but we still haven’t touched on the wider monitoring prospects. In essence, SFP+ ONU can be plugged into power supplies and infrastructure to provide real-time visibility into critical utilities and devices present throughout the network. This facility, on its part, goes a long distance to ensure that operators can monitor and manage their network’s health and performance with greater precision and responsiveness.

Rounding up highlights would be the Passive Optical LAN. Through OLT-pluggable, passive optical splitters, the SFP+ ONU can terminate directly into SFP+ ports on client devices. The idea behind doing so is to cut back on the need for expensive Ethernet switches, and at the same time, enable operators to span distances of up to 20km that cannot be served via Ethernet. Given those capabilities, the stated component can be deemed an ideal solution for large-scale deployments.

Founded in 1992, Sercomm’s rise up the ranks stems from developing embedded solutions to make networking simple and affordable. At present, the company banks upon its engineering capability and its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility to offer comprehensive telecom broadband solutions, such as small cells, residential/enterprise gateways, and IoT products, Sercomm’s excellence in what it does can also be understood once you consider it currently serves the world’s top service provider, networking OEM, and system integrators.

“Sercomm is excited to partner with Harmonic to bring our I-TEMP 10G PON SFP+ ONU to market, now certified with Harmonic’s cOS PON OLT portfolio. This collaboration provides operators with high-performance, adaptable fiber solutions that offer exceptional flexibility,” said Derek Elder, President of Sercomm Service Provider Business Group. “Sercomm’s commitment is to deliver innovations that enhance network capabilities while providing the versatility required to address a wide range of deployment scenarios.”
