Amazon Powers Ahead with $15 Billion Indiana Investment to Boost AI and Cloud Growth

New data center campuses will expand cloud capacity, create high-skilled jobs, and support local communities across Northern Indiana.

Sheridan, WY, 25 November 2025 – Amazon has announced a major new investment of an estimated 15 billion dollars in Northern Indiana to build large-scale data center campuses designed to support the fast-growing demand for artificial intelligence and cloud computing. The company says the rapid rise of generative AI is increasing the need for advanced computing power, and the new campuses will play a central role in powering future innovation. This latest investment comes in addition to the 11 billion dollars Amazon committed last year in St. Joseph County and will expand its data center footprint to new sites across the state.

The new project will add 2.4 gigawatts of cloud infrastructure capacity, supported by the same engineering capabilities behind Project Rainier, which Amazon describes as the world’s largest AI supercomputer. By designing its own chips, servers, and network systems, Amazon Web Services aims to deliver stronger performance, security, reliability, and energy efficiency to customers using high-demand AI and cloud applications. The facilities are being built for scale and optimized for machine learning workloads, while also following energy-efficient and sustainable design standards.

Amazon says the investment is expected to create more than 1,100 high-skilled jobs in roles such as data center engineering, network operations, security, and facilities management. The project will also support thousands of indirect jobs in construction, electrical work, fiber-optic installation, and other technical trades across the region. State leaders called the announcement a major step forward for Indiana’s economic future, workforce growth, and technology presence.

In partnership with NIPSCO, Amazon has introduced a new framework to power the data centers without raising costs for residents and small businesses. Through a new utility structure, Amazon will pay for energy infrastructure, upgrades, and grid support while covering associated costs. NIPSCO estimates that this model will save existing customers about 1 billion dollars over 15 years while strengthening the regional power grid. The new project will add up to 3 gigawatts of generation capacity, increasing reliability for all customers during high-demand seasons.

The investment also includes long-term commitments to education, technical training, and workforce development. Amazon plans to support community colleges, trade schools, and universities in creating hands-on learning programs tied to careers in data center operations, broadband connectivity, and cloud technology. Initiatives include fiber-optic technician training, data center operations courses, pre-apprenticeship programs, and educator workshops focused on digital infrastructure. Local students will also gain access to STEM and technology programs for elementary through high school levels, including robotics, engineering experiences, and career-awareness learning.

Amazon says it will also launch a Community Fund to support local projects related to digital skills, sustainability, environmental programs, heritage, health, and community development. These efforts aim to revitalize shared spaces, expand green areas, and enhance community resources in the areas where the data centers will operate.

This new development expands Amazon’s broader presence across Indiana, where the company already operates fulfillment centers, delivery stations, and data centers. Since 2010, Amazon has invested more than 31.3 billion dollars in the state and created more than 24,500 direct jobs. The company notes that its investments have supported thousands of additional jobs in construction and professional services and contributed nearly 30 billion dollars to the state economy. Amazon has also invested in renewable energy projects, including several solar farms and a wind farm in Indiana.

With its newest data center campuses, Amazon aims to position Indiana as a major contributor to the country’s AI and cloud technology growth. The company says its goal is to create jobs, expand digital infrastructure, and help communities access technology tools, training, and long-term opportunities. As AI adoption accelerates, Indiana is set to play an important role in supporting the next wave of technological advancement driven by Amazon’s expanding cloud capabilities.
